Database files can become damaged for a variety of reasons, such as:
- The program was shut down while a record was being saved
- A power surge interrupted the program while it was saving a record
- There was a brief interruption in the network
To protect your data:
- Create a backup copy of the database frequently. On the Utilities menu, there is a button that automatically backs up your data to the directory C:\DatabaseBackup. Just click this button to run the program.
You should also make backup copies of all of your important files to a location other than your C:\ drive. Use a network drive, a Zip drive, a network drive, or even a memory stick.
- Be sure that your computer is plugged into a surge protector (not a plain power strip).
- If the computer frequently shuts down while you are doing complex operations like importing data, you may not have enough memory.
To recover damaged files:
From the main menu, click Scripts and select "Recover Damaged File." A dialog box titled "Open Damaged Files" will appear. Select the file that is damaged and click Open. Repeat for any other files that may be damaged. The program will recover the lost data and create a new copy of the file. The old copy will be renamed .
