Twenty Examples Using FIND Mode

Find private employers in Holyoke - Employer table
* Enter Find Mode. Put Holyoke in the City field. Select Private in the Type field. Click Find.

Find employers in Holyoke or Chicopee - Employer table
* Enter Find Mode. Put Holyoke in the City field. Click Requests, Add New Request on the menu bar or type Ctrl-N . Put Chicopee in the City field. Click Find. (This creates an "or" statement.)

Find all the employers except Holyoke employers
* Enter Find Mode. Put Holyoke in the City field. Click the Omit checkbox in the status area on the left. Click Find.
OR
* Enter Find Mode. Put Holyoke in the City field. Click Find. Then, on the menu bar, click Records, Show Omitted.

Find people named Mary or Mary Beth or Margaret Mary but not Maryann.
* Enter Find mode. Enter =Mary in the first name field. Click Find.

Find records from Springfield but not West Springfield
* Enter Find mode. Put ==Springfield in the city field. Click Find.

Find an employer where the contact person's name is either John or Jon - Employer table
* Enter Find Mode. Put Jo*n in the first name field in the Contacts portal. Click find. (The asterisk means any character or characters. This Find will find Jon, John, and Jonathan, as well as Joan and Joanna.)

*** If you need to be more exact, try combining some of the techniques described above. For example, you could enter Find mode, put ==John in the first name field, click Requests, Add New Request, then put ==Jon in the first name field, then click Find. This will look for people with the exact name John OR Jon.

Find employers who provide Level C internships. - Employer table
* Go to the Employer History layout. Enter Find mode. Put Level C in the W&L Level field in the portal that displays the employer history. Click Find.

Find employers who provided jobs/internships prior to 7/1/1999 - Employer table
* Go to the Employer History layout. Enter Find mode. Put <7/1/1999 in the start date field and put A1 in the Activity Code field. Click Find.

Find internships with start dates between 1/1/2004 and 3/31/2004 - STW table
* Enter find mode. Put 1/1/2004...3/31/2004 in the Start date field. Click find.

Find internships which are 10 to 20 hours per week - STW table
* Enter Find mode. Put 10...20 in the Hours per week field. Click find.

Find internships with a wage greater than or equal to $6.50 per hour
* Enter Find mode. Put >=6.50 in the wage field. Click find.

Find records where the wage is not zero - STW table
* Use any layout. Enter find mode. Put >0 in the wage field. Click find.

Find one record per employer - STW file
* Go to the Employer History Table. Put a Y in the Employer Key Record field. Click Find. (There is also a set of scripts that will find the first (Key) record for employers, students, contacts, and activities.)

Find records where the phone number is blank.
* Enter Find mode. Put = (an equal sign) in the phone number field. Click Find. (= means equals blank)

Find records where the email address is not blank
* Enter Find mode. Put * (an asterisk) in the email address field. Click Find. (* stands for 'any character or characters)

Find records where there are several records for the same student - STW file
Enter Find mode. Put an ! in the Student ID field. OR - in the Internship List or similar layout put an ! in the field that displays the student's full name. Click Find. The exclamation point (!) finds records with matching or duplicate information. Note: If you put an exclamation point in the first name field and another in the last name field, you'll find ALL the Jennifers, Amandas, Michaels, Smiths, etc., even if the full names don't match.

Find records that you created today
* Enter Find mode. Put the symbol // in the Date Created field. Click Find. (The symbol // means today's date. You can also use the date itself, such as 5/28/2000.)

Find records that you modified today but created on a different day
* Enter Find mode. Put the symbol // in the Date Modified field. Put
Find records where the student id has exactly four digits or characters
* Enter Find mode. Put @@@@ in the Student ID field. Click Find.
