What's New in the FY2010 School to Career Database?

  1. MCAS Scores and Targetting. The FY2010 database introduces a new format for tracking Level A, Level B and Level C placements. We no longer have the MCAS Scores Worksheet at the bottom of the placement screen, but instead, there is a simpler set of checkboxes on the placement screen. You are asked if the student is in the MCAS target group and if they are in an W&L Work and Learning Academic Support program. From these answers, the levels are calculated automatically.

It is hoped that this change will simplify data collection while still allowing us to manage and track programming by target groups.

Note: As usual, the MCAS Score information does not print when you print the placement screen, though you can print it as needed from other screens.

  2. Summer YouthWorks Reporting. As mentioned in recent communications from CommCorp, for those who are running YouthWorks Summer program, the STC Database offers one extra option for reporting. Other options include CommCorp's YouthWorks database and the online Work-Based Learning Plan. These choices allow YouthWorks programs to select the tool that works best for them, and to integrate YouthWorks reporting with other reporting if desired and with their use of the Work-Based Learning Plans if desired.) If you are interested in this option, you can look for a button at the top of the placement screen that opens a YouthWorks Summer placement screen. Contact Jennifer with questions.

  3. Other.
    • There are two new buttons on the quarterly report screen. One allows you to clear the screen as needed. The other new button brings you to the "copy and paste" screen that allows you to copy and paste the quarterly report screen into Word or Excel.
    • The online database manual is being updated to connect to new resources that we have been developing, including the expanded bank of job descriptions, skills and tasks and other materials that support the use of the Work-Based Learning Plan.
    • The database manual is also being updated to clarify mail merge and exports to and from Microsoft Word for those who are using Office 2007.
    • Other changes are based on feedback during the year.
